The Church
of
Kalos
|
An
introduction:
The Church of Kalos is loved and loathed by many. Just as laws serve to protect, the taxes required to support enforcement of those laws are rarely appreciated. The word of law is what Kalos is best known for, though he has significant interest in magic and learning.
Well represented in the City of the Falls and Darian o'Dell, politicians, scholars, barristers and mages offer their prayers to him for wisdom and guidance.
Where there is order, where there is law, there is Kalos. Let not a gavel fall in the name of justice, a spell be cast, or a book be opened without a prayer first said to him.

Clerical Ranks:
Wizards and Clerics alike may be ordained in the Church of Kalos. Sorcerers and bards are not welcome unless they are law abiding, well educated AND literate. Literacy is emphasized as many sorcerers and bards have extensive oral knowledge, but lack respectable reading or writing skills.

Any of the Ordained may name a worthy follower as a Neonate of
Kalos. Once ordained, the follower is afforded the respected rank of Initiate.
A follower can become a Neonate in the service of Kalos simply by serving well and by not impeding the ordained of the Church. All followers are expected to deal with others fairly under the law, be literate and willing to teach when called on.
Players who wish to RP as an ordained of Kalos may take the liberty of selecting the appropriate rank from the appropriate Aspect up to the 3rd rank. For a character to rise to 4th through the 7th rank they must undergo ceremonies as detailed below. No character will be elevated over the 7th rank unless they started the character as a Neonate and have excelled in RP and OOC leadership to justify such a prestigious role.
Please note, ordained ranks ARE NOT governed strictly by character level or character experience. These ranks of the ordained are very much IC and will include specific duties, primarily by fostering RP and acting as leaders and/or advisors to others.
For ease of RP for rituals and to show dedication to their faith, however, some level requirements do apply for assignment of church rank.
Neonate: Must be literate, Minimal INT=10
Initiate: Lore=5, Concentration=5
Servant: Must select a path between Law, Knowledge and Magic. If Law is chosen a Listen of at least 4 is needed, Knowledge requires a Search of at least 4, and for Magic one needs a Discipline of at least 4.
Aspirant: Lore and Concentration of at least 10 and at least 8 points in the path skill previously selected as a Servant.
Student: Able to cast and Scribe 1st level spells (any), RP reputation for fairness and a senior PC ranked Barrister/Specialist (or DM controlled
NPC) and forums posts.
Advocate/Researcher: RP required, with forum posts and two senior PC's ranked as Arbitrator/Professor or higher. An ordained mage would be expected to be able to cast 4th level arcane spells.
Barrister/Specialist: RP involving a DM, forum posts and three senior PC's ranked Judge/Master or higher. An ordained mage would be expected to be able to cast 6th level arcane spells.
Arbitrator/Professor: Well established RP with DM involvement. An ordained mage would be expected to be able to cast 9th level arcane spells.

How
to greet the clergy:
How to greet the Ordained of Kalos
The greetings offered to the Ordained of Kalos vary greatly and are generally determined by the society the Ordained lives in and the social status the follower holds.
In places of law and magical learning the level of deference and respect is most significant. Those who hold station from Scribe to Advocate are often treated the same as minor nobility or esteemed members of the community, being greeted with respect, but without significant ceremony.
Barristers and Arbitrators and the equivalent associated titles enjoy a bizarre kind of respect that is mixed with awe and a tinge of fear. These highly respected and specialized individuals are often so educated that the average person is unable to fathom such depth of knowledge. It is not uncommon for statements made by these people to be considered as intelligent and factual by the masses without any challenge. In fact, the wisdom, intelligence and opinions of those who rise to this station is often only questioned by their peers or betters.
Even among the highest nobility, respect is offered to those who display the reason and fairness to become Judges and Magistrates. It is at this level of Kalos's Ordination that the specialized differences between law, education and magic becomes profound. Those who specialize in law are deferred to as a his/her 'Honor'. Among the educational esteemed, they are universally referred to by their title and are often renowned across the land.
Grandmages and Archmages are viewed a bit differently. While they are greatly respected for their level of knowledge and the service they can provide their communities, they wield such great power that they are also feared. The masses will often go out of their way to avoid them.
Different among all the Ordained of Kalos is the Seer. This position is reserved only for a highly devoted follower of law and who serves as a divine witness and leader of the clergy. Always greeted by his/her lessers with a respectful bow, this person is nearly worshiped by those of law-abiding societies.
